The house

It's time to start a new unit in English. This time we are learning about the house: rooms, furniture, types of houses and we are introducing prepositions of place as it is a Trinity content.

At the end of the unit children will be able to talk about their house, say and write brief descriptions of a house using there is/are/isn't/aren't and they will be able to use the main prepositions  of place.

First let's start with the parts of the house. Here you have some activities to practise them.

Plants

After learning about the food groups we are studying now where the group of fruits and vegetables come from, that is, the plants.

We are starting reviewing what they learnt last year. Here you have two songs about the parts of a plant and what plants need.

This year we will study these parts deeply. We we'll find out what these parts do for the plant to stay alive, that is, their functions.

This story by Eric Carle is perfect to illustrate the life cycle of a plant. In the school we have the book, I will tell them the story in class and we will work on it.

Food

After knowing how the digestive system works we are learning what food is good for us because it helps us to grow, to stay healthy and gives us energy.

Let's review

Once we know how to name in English lots of food items it's time to classify them in groups. In class we have made a big food pyramid using the supermarket leaflets children brought. They've learnt what are the food groups and why we use a pyramid to represent them (in the smallest par of the pyramid we put the kind of food we have to eat less and the in the biggest part the food that we need to eat everyday).

In this game you have to classify the food and put it in the corresponding box.

We also know that the group of bread and cereal give us energy, the group of meat, fish, eggs and milk and dairy help us to grow and the group of fruit and vegetables keep us healthy and away from the doctor.
