The house
It's time to start a new unit in English. This time we are learning about the house: rooms, furniture, types of houses and we are introducing prepositions of place as it is a Trinity content.
At the end of the unit children will be able to talk about their house, say and write brief descriptions of a house using there is/are/isn't/aren't and they will be able to use the main prepositions of place.
First let's start with the parts of the house. Here you have some activities to practise them.
Here there're some games about some house furniture

Plants
After learning about the food groups we are studying now where the group of fruits and vegetables come from, that is, the plants.
We are starting reviewing what they learnt last year. Here you have two songs about the parts of a plant and what plants need.
This year we will study these parts deeply. We we'll find out what these parts do for the plant to stay alive, that is, their functions.

This story by Eric Carle is perfect to illustrate the life cycle of a plant. In the school we have the book, I will tell them the story in class and we will work on it.

Food
After knowing how the digestive system works we are learning what food is good for us because it helps us to grow, to stay healthy and gives us energy.
Let's review
Once we know how to name in English lots of food items it's time to classify them in groups. In class we have made a big food pyramid using the supermarket leaflets children brought. They've learnt what are the food groups and why we use a pyramid to represent them (in the smallest par of the pyramid we put the kind of food we have to eat less and the in the biggest part the food that we need to eat everyday).
In this game you have to classify the food and put it in the corresponding box.
We also know that the group of bread and cereal give us energy, the group of meat, fish, eggs and milk and dairy help us to grow and the group of fruit and vegetables keep us healthy and away from the doctor.

The digestive system
Hello everybody, after finishing unit 1 in science and before starting unit 2 we are studying the Digestive system as we think is the perfect link between the two units. In the students book there are no contents about it, so we have presented the topic through these videos and a worksheet.

The human body
The first science unit is called "The human body". In this unit we will revise things children already know and they will learn new things about what's inside our body.
One of the things we are revising are the 5 senses. Have a look at this video and find out what can you remember.
Do you remember this song? Don't forget that the five senses are: the sense of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. Due to the sense of sight we can see.
Practise what you know with these games
The new contents we're learning have to do with the inside of our body. Inside our body we have the skeleton, which is made of bones, muscles and important organs such as the brain, the heart and the lungs.
Watching this video you can reinforce what's been already taught in class about the skeletal system. Notice that it mentions many bones, at this level you only need to know the skull, humerous, femur, ribs and hips.

The alphabet
Last year in 1st grade we learnt the English sounds and the most common way of writing them, that is, we learnt how some letters sound. This year we are learning the name of the letters, that is, the alphabet.
Here there is a song in which you can listen both, the name of the letters and how they sound. It can help you to understand the difference.
Here there is a song in which you can listen both, the name of the letters and how they sound. It can help you to understand the difference.
And here is the alphabet song

Summer holidays
Hello everybody, how are you doing? How are your summer holidays? Have you been anywhere? I'll tell you about mine.
I did not write here before because since the end of june I have been very busy. In July I went to the Pirinean Mountains. I had a great time there, hiking, swimming in a swiming pool, climbing mountains, etc. After that I went to Norway, it's a beautiful country in the north of Europe. There, people speak Norwegian but most of them can also speak English so I could ask anything I needed to know. The natural landscapes there are awesome: there are waterfalls, glaciars (a frozen sea), fiords, lakes, rivers, mountains, etc.
What about you? Where have you been in July? Are you going anywhere in August? Have you spoken English with somebody? Tell me about you holidays, the lanscapes you have seen. Leave your comments.
Remember that summer holidays are a time for relaxing, playing, swimming, doing things with friends but there is also time for practising english. At the end of June I gave your parents a list of things you could do, I will remind you:
1. Tell me about your holidays, places you have visited, describe the lanscapes (there is/ there are), activities you have practiced (I swim, I climb, etc). Write it in the comments chart.
"In July I went to____,
In August I'm going to ____"
3. Read books, in the "literacy" page or in the "reading books" entry you have some books you can read.
4. Watch cartoons in English, you can press the dual button or watch then in you tube. Here you have a Peppa Pig episode
5. Ask your parents to dictate you some English words (choose them from you books, the jolly phonics worksheets you completed or from the phonics entries in this blog).
6. If you have the opportunity to speak in English do it (maybe at the beach where there are usually foreign people, or if you go to another country).
6. If you have the opportunity to speak in English do it (maybe at the beach where there are usually foreign people, or if you go to another country).
7. Read science books too, if you don't find them in English read them in Spanish. Read about the human body, the Solar System, Materials, Animals, Plants, etc.
8. And finally, something new, write a postcard to the school saying where are you, we can read them in September.

Reading books
In this web site you will find lots of books for children to read. You can select books according to the colour of the band (each stage has one colour, in class we are reading now lilac and green band books that correspond to stages 1 and 2. Grey band books are stories to listen). It will be great if during the summer holidays children will read at least one book per day and speak about the story with an adult.
Anytime you read a book please write in comments the following information:
- Book title
- Characters
- A sentence about the book. For example: "It's Chip's Birthday"
- Did you like the book?
- Personajes
- Un frase sobre el libro
- Escribir si te ha gustado

As you know in science we are studying unit 11. As we are learning about the Sun children already know that the two movements of the Sun make the day and the night and the Seasons. Here are some good resources for practising and learning about them.
